HOUSE…

The original farmhouse, il Poggiolo a Codiponte, was in two parts: one divided into a living and the other for working but, later on, an attempt, never finished, was to turn the working part into a master’s house. Instead a Medici-style house was begun below. It too was never finished. More than likely, someone died and divided the inheritance into two separate parts and thus, never completed. One heir built an entirely separate house and the Medici-style home was again divided between heirs. We bought the upper part. The bottom was sold to a neighbour who wanted to expand her house for her son, who rarely comes and never uses the portion purchased by his mother for him.

Before… when we first laid eyes upon il Poggiolo a Codiponte on Saturday, January 10, 2009. We made an offer that very very afternoon. It was accepted on the Monday after.

Doors and windows… a variety which came in handy as table tops for our big dinner parties later on.

Pre-construction, June 2009… we paid the builder to clear, clean and carry away trash and debris from over 40 years of neglect. This is not normally a task. on any builder’s To Do list here.

Construction… from 2009 to 2014.

After, June 2014

The Main House or, La Casa Grande…

 Upstairs apartment or, L’Appartamento Azzurro…

Downstairs house or, La Casetta…

Recent additions… we installed two fireplaces in La Casa Grande’s LR & DR in 2018.
